Pictures at PIC…

Monday, 30 April 2012. While probably half of South Africa took a long weekend, I was at the Public Investment Corporation for an early morning photography session.

The purpose of the photography session was to solve a problem for the Executive PA to the CIO of PIC – Desiree Hartney. From the straight forward and slightly mundane, I saw that the interior of the building provided me with an interesting ‘backdrop’ and I immediately started to ‘play’…

The following images of Desiree Hartney, Mr Elias Masilela (CEO of PIC) and Mr Daniel Matjila (CIO of PIC), was the result of me ‘playing’. I got excited with the stone wall – its texture and colour.

A pity I could not spend a bit more time there to look at all the various possibilities offered by the ‘clean’ interior of the building. Thank you Desiree, for this opportunity!

Framing…added service

So often we have the most beautiful photographs, but we never display them for others to see, except on social media networks and throught the internet. Many people I’ve interacted with, don’t have those memorable moments displayed in their homes.

So, in order to make those special moments talking points for visits from friends and family members to your home, or even in your office environment, I’ve now added a framing as an additional service to what I offer my clients in the Gauteng region.

The framing is not just limited to photographs for private individuals, but also include framing of prints and certificates for both individuals and corporates.

Corne @ Sunet Vermaak Image Inspirations

Today I had another opportunity to photograph one of Sunet’s clients – Corne. It’s always fun for me to see the transformation that takes place when Sunet ‘works her magic’ with applying make-up and advising on the correct clothes and colours to wear.

To get Corne over the initial hesitance for me to photograph her, I took a few photographs while Sunet did her make-up.

Then we started having fun with moving around for the photographs – some indoors and others in the garden. Here are a couple of the photographs.

Thank you Corne – it was great to photograph you in order to show off your new hairstyle and image. Thank you Sunet for another opportunity to experience another transformation.

Something old…something new…

I had to laugh…it is late March, but today the weather decided to make things a bit more difficult for me… Late afternoon showers, just as I’m about to photograph construction work outside! So instead of a nice blue sky, I had one filled with grey rain clouds!

A regular corporate client needed some photographs of the changes taking place at their premises. I enjoyed assisting them with this task.

There were changes to existing structures……and there were brand new structures…

For others this might be a mundane task and subject. For me…? I take pleasure in the lines and angles, contrast between metal and brick and sand and cement…the growth…

Monochromatics…

I had the opportunity to ‘play’ with some of the photographs I took during the corporate personnel photoshoot for the company – Partners in Research.

What do I mean with ‘playing’ around with the photographs? Well, I took the photographs that ‘did not make it’ for the purposes they were taken – in this case the company website – and applied colour variations to them.

I loved what they looked like when I changed them to black and white images, like this one… Here is the original image…

…which I changed into a high contrast black and white image, giving it a total different ‘feel’… I did not do a lot of editing as I’m still a minimalist when it comes to editing photographs.

Here are a couple of the gems I discovered while ‘playing’ with the images in this manner.

Melrose Arch & The Venue

It was half past six in the morning when I arrived at Melrose Arch to photograph a function at The Venue.

The sky was a clear blue with a crispness in the air – an indication of the arrival of autumn. For me, Melrose Arch has a ‘feeling’ of its own…different from any of the places in the surrounding areas I’ve been to.

As I was early, it gave me the opportunity to walk around for a short while and just enjoy the lines and shapes of the architecture. To someone else, these images might have no meaning or be of any relevance, but for me…I love the lines, the shapes, the curves, the colours and the different materials used in the construction of these buildings…

Then I had the opportunity to take a walk through The Venue – from it’s interesting wooden double doors, the atrium at the entrance all the way to the richly decorated cigar lounge.

The use of colour, the different textures and style again struck me – for me it has an amazing atmosphere, one that I would like to see more of and have the opportunity to photograph more of its interior. Thank you Gorette for showing me around – I really appreciate it!
